Andrea has owned and operated Spella Caffè in Portland, Oregon, for nearly 20 years. His legacy reflects an unmatched dedication to traditional hand-pulled Italian espresso served with gracious hospitality. His passionate focus on sustainable sourcing, uncompromising quality, and long-term local partnerships has made “Spella” a local legend.

Chelsea, Roastery Manager / Head Roaster
Chelsea moved to Portland in 2021, joining us from Baltimore, Maryland. A life long coffee-lover, Chelsea is a natural artisan and it reflects in her rhythm of roasting. When she’s not working with Rosie (roaster), Chelsea loves to dive into creative pursuits and home projects with her high school sweetheart (now husband). She loves good music, yoga, and the endless outdoor adventures Portland has to offer.
Rossalina, Roaster Extraordinaire
Rosie has been with Andrea for 20 years and is an amazing, long-time staff member of the Spella Caffè Roastery. She can handle 5.5 kilos or approximately 12-pound batches of green coffee beans at a time and helps develop the signature flavor found in Spella’s espresso. Rossalina loves dancing with Spella’s human roasters who lovingly manage and maintain her well-being. She is happy, loved, and cherished in her home in inner SE Portland where she fills the air with warm, roasted coffee aromatics.
Ethan, Roastery Apprentice and Wholesale Delivery
Ethan has worked for years with Spella and partnering businesses (Campana and Pronto); he joined us at the caffè and roastery in January 2025, and in the summer started training as an Apprentice Roaster. Ethan has a huge heart, creative mind, and a strong work ethic. He values excellence and serves our customers and wholesale partners with genuine warmth, consistency, and dedication. Ethan is passionate about music, travel, and loves his chickens like family!
DS, Communications / Crew Operations
DS is warm, creative, and passionate. She’s been a long-time customer of Spella- since the cart days! DS wears many hats at Spella offering 20+ years of experience in coffee, hospitality, business leadership, employee relations, marketing and media, and communications. DS and her family established an urban foodie forest in 2020 with 30+ fruit trees, chickens, and quail. She loves serving in the caffè and is a worker bee behind the scenes!
Austin, Caffè Manager (Alder Street) / Head Barista
Austin comes to Spella with a wealth of knowledge and experiences around coffee. He placed second in Peet’s Coffee’s company-wide barista competition (He is exceptionally good at drink execution and milk foam). Austin is authentic and grounding, a Portland native whose other career is as a mental health counselor. He loves hiking, playing video games, and tinkering with a well-loved La Pavoni espresso machine at home.
Cass, Barista at Alder St. flagship
Cass is the newest member of the Spella Caffè crew. She joins us with a wealth of knowledge and experience in food and beverage. She radiates warmth, curiosity, creativity, and care. She is a die hard espresso fan, and folks love the flavor and floral designs she creates. She is passionate about plants and the natural world. Her dignity, strength, and grounded presence is attributed to her Lakota heritage. We are honored to have Cass’ depth and compassion on the crew!
